Drilling Optimization Engineer Job Description
The drilling optimization engineer (DOE) will be responsible for the real time mitigation of drilling inefficiencies for WPDA jobs via a remote monitoring environment or onsite as required. This role identifies inefficiencies or deviations in the real time data trends, postulates as to the cause of the inefficiency or deviation, and makes recommendations to the designated client drilling personnel as to changes in the drilling parameters and practices that will mitigate or correct the inefficiency. This position will also collect and analyze the available data to prepare and present pre-well and post well reports.
The DOE will also be involved with the support and assistance (remote/ onsite) of new IMO’s products and services such as Torque & Drag, SoftSpeed, StringSense and NOVA/ NOVOS/ FUSION.
The work location is Houston, the new eHawkRTTC facility at 5100 N. Sam Houston Pkwy W. The work schedule will consist of 7 days on / 7 days off rotation working 12 hour shifts, the rotation begins on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning depending on if working the day or night shift. Day shift is from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm and night shift is from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am. You will be permanently on this schedule.
Ideally BS in petroleum engineering with at least 2 years of experience in drilling engineering and/or operations. Other Engineering degrees such as Mechanical, Geological, Electrical, Industrial, Chemical will only be considered if they have a minimum of 3 years of proven field/operational job experience in drilling. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, basic project management and real time/ support operations. Desired job experience and skills sets are those related to drilling wells operation, rig components/ operations, drilling services, drilling mechanics, drilling with mud motors, use of Mechanical Specific Energy ‘MSE’, rock strength (CCS) and surface drilling parameters to identify drilling inefficiencies and improve performance in real time and remotely, analysis and interpretation of BHA designs, Torque & Drag, drilling hydraulics, good knowledge of drill bits and features, overall drilling optimization. Experience and/or background in MWD/LWD and/or Directional Drilling will be big pluses. The qualified candidate must be able to perform well under pressure, be able to multi-task, and work in a team environment.
